Learn how to validate an uploaded demographics file.
Required Permission: Upload Data into eduCLIMBER
Where to Start
- Select Uploads.
- Select Needing Validation.
- Double click the Validation cell to open the Validation window.
- All data needing validation will display in the left menu. Select Demographics to validate the demographic part of the file.
- Uploaded demographics can either be aliased to an existing demographic, or they can be created as new. To being, select the checkbox next to the demographic.
- Select Actions.
- Choose Create New Demographic to have the demographic be created as new within eduCLIMBER.

- The Demographic Name will display as it was displayed on the file. Choose to keep the name or edit to a different name.
- Identify the Demographic Type:
- Date, Number, Option, Yes/No, Text
- Identify if the demographic should be applied to all school years by toggling on All School Years.
- Click Save to save the demographic.
- Important to note:
- The default settings on the demographic will be:
- Restricted
- Not displayed on the Student Profile, Datawalls, or smartFORMS
- Once the demographic is created, it can be manually managed/edited within eduCLIMBER.
- The default settings on the demographic will be:
- Choose to Alias to Demographic to have the uploaded demographic added to an already existing demographic.
- Identify the Demographic by selecting the already created demographic from the dropdown menu and click Alias.
- Note that aliasing a demographic can also be completed on the initial validation screen by double-clicking in the Alias To cell and identifying the alias from the menu.
- When a demographic is aliased, all demographic configurations as set on the already-created demographic will still apply.
