Observations allow users to record and track adaptive and maladaptive student behaviors. Users can create either a traditional Observation or an Interval Observation. A traditional Observation is open-ended, whereas an Interval Observation repeatedly prompts the user, after a set amount of time, to observe the student's behavior. This lesson guides users through creating each Observation type.
Where to Start

- Use the dropdown to search for and select a student.
Create an Observation

Select Observation Type
A traditional Observation is open-ended, whereas an Interval Observation repeatedly prompts the user, after a set amount of time, to observe the student's behavior. Traditional Observations are best used after a behavior has been observed and a user wants to record it. An Interval Observation is best used when a user wants to observe a student's behavior periodically throughout the day/course/period or other user-defined time frame.
Start Observation
- Select Start Observation.
- Enter a Sampling Name into the text box. (Optional)
- Select the colored square to set a color for the Observation. This color is how the Observation will be represented in the table. By default, all Observations will be different colors, but a user can update the colors if needed.
- Use the Plus Sign to add the behavior as a momentary observation of a student's behavior.
- Select Start to begin a prolonged Observation of a student's behavior. This will change to a Stop button. Select Stop when the student is no longer engaging in the behavior.
- Enter a Note into the text box, if applicable.
Start Interval Observation
- Select Start Interval Observation.
- Enter the Interval Length into the text box. This is the length of time between observations of the student's behavior.
- Enter the Observation Duration into the text box. This is the amount of time the user will observe the student for.
- Select Okay.
- A prompt asking the user to Observe the student appears and will repeatedly appear after the Interval Length concludes and until the user stops the Observation.
- Enter a Sampling Name into the text box. (Optional)
